There is one extra thing to take into consideration these days when it comes to selling used cars: The economic crisis and the lack of demand. Also, due to the huge number of auto loans going unpaid, the repossessed car auctions market is almost flooded, which brings prices down. Same thing with government car auction trends. Be careful, and don't underestimate the situation we're going through.

How much is this car really worth?
My dad no longer drives. I bought his 1980 Malibu Classic 4 door sedan powered by a V6 engine. It has original 37K miles, no NY winters. It is clean, like new yet. It was appraised at $4300. Many have told me its worth more than I think....others told me b/c it's a 4 door V6, won't be worth much no matter what condition it is in.
Who can I go to that will tell me the true value of this car?

The price of a second hand vehicle depends on a number of factors. It depends on the condition of the vehicle, the demand for that model of vehicle, the mileage of the vehicle, the accident history, the prevailing pollution laws etc. You can determine the price of your vehicle based on the prices of similar vehicles that are being sold in the market. If your car is well maintained then you can expect to get a little more than the market price.

You can also enquire with your local mechanics to determine what price you should be asking for. Certain minor repairs and touch up jobs may help you get a better final price. Cars generally use value very quickly unless they are antiques or collector's pieces.
