Yes, if changed properly certainly do it!
But DO NOT HAVE YOUR TRANSMISSION FLUSHED!!!!!!
That could cause the damage you are concerned about.
Change the transmission fluid (ATF) by having a mechanic do the following:
1. Drain the old ATF.
2. Remove the transmission pan.
3. Remove and replace the transmission filter.
4. Clean the pan and the magnet that may be on it.
5. Replace the pan and use a new gasket.
6. Refill the transmission with the correct amount of the correct ATF.
Your mechanic will know how to do this but the general idea is to NOT HAVE ANYONE FLUSH YOUR TRANSMISSION!!!!! Yes, I know that there are lots of the Kwick-E-Lube places around that advetise their transmission flush service but avoid them at all costs! I warned you!
