I don't know that cars have them but a fuel safety switch on other vehicles is used to shut off the flow of fuel in case of a accident or a engine failure recognized by the computer to help stop any further damage to the engine. Just like if you were to run the engine out of oil the computer should recognize the lack of oil pressure and shut the engine off so you do not fry the engine.
