If you are a member of AAA, call them. They will tow it for free to a service centre.
Most tow prices are tallied up as the initial hook up price, then a secondary charge per mile. Again, it depends on the price of the tower, but the average price for the hook up will be between $45 and $65 and the average price per mile can be anything from $2 to $4 dollars. If you have a friend who can tow vehicles, you’d save a lot of money by asking them to do it.
If they have to travel far out to get to your car, they may also bump up the price for that too.
As an alternative, you could ask the service centre to pick it up and tow it to them. They will include the towing in the cost of repairs. You never know, the service centre may have a contract with some tow companies, so you may get it for a little cheaper.
Tow companies may also charge more depending on the time of day. Peak times will likely be after working hours, so after 5PM. If you can get them to tow your car during the day, you may save yourself a few dollars.
In whole, if you know somebody who has their own truck, you could pay them to tow it. It will be considerably cheaper; otherwise you could call your insurance company and see if they can offer you anything. Towing won’t be cheap, but if you have to, you have to. A broken car can be one of the biggest inconveniences in today’s society, especially if your income relies on it.
