I have the same problem with my 2000 ford ranger 5spd 2wd its started off like that now its parked at an apartment complex 30 miles from where I live until I can get to it tomorrow, like I said it started like this but progressed to a very large problem and now my parking brake hase completely locked up my rear end and the truck won't budge, role or anything resemble forward progression except for burning out and chirping the tires a little bit ,but when you put it in reverse it hase no problem going backwards! Have no idea what to do anymore.
I Used My Parking Brake Inside My 2000 Ford Ranger, Then Pulled The Handle To Disingage It, Then The Brake Started Sticking A Little Causing Smoke And Make The Truck Vibrate When Drivin, What Do I Do To Fix This?
Sounds like the park brake cable may be rusty or binding. Try to free it up by applying park break and releasing it several times. Try pulling the brake release and at same time pull the park break pedal up to be sure it is disengaging completely. Check that when you apply the park brake and then pull the release lever, the pedal should release with a quick snap sound, if it does not spring may be bad.
My situation resembled a cyclical binding/ breaking with both accel. And deceleration, but the steering wheel did not jerk at all and braking did not cause the truck to veer at all. Local shop, midas, said it was drivers upper ball joint, bearings and shocks were causing problem ($900.00). I replaced all that and did not solve the problem. The next advice was to replace front rotors. But the steering wheel did not jerk! I jacked up each wheel, placed white tape at 12:00 and gave each a spin. Each wheel spun 1 1/8 revolution at least except for drivers rear got 1/4 turn. I replaced both the parking brake cables and for $50.00 at the NAPA store it is a new truck. Hope this aids some one else with this diagnostic dilema. S-daddy
I replaced my rear end on my 2002 ford ranger and need to know which emergency cable mount to fram?
You just need to get all the tension off brake cable or take brakes apart an put need cables on truck
