To add Freon to a 2001 Chevy Tahoe you need to do the following:

  • Follow the larger line that runs from your air conditioner from the firewall
  • As you follow the line you should find a service port on the line
  • Use this port to attach the Freon can to the hose and the service port
  • The Freon will drain into the hose once the engine is started
  • You will need to turn on the A/C to high blower, max air or recirculation

The port may be difficult to see based on how much other stuff is in the way that belongs to the engine. Most individuals take their vehicles in to a service center because it is harder to reach the line. It also depends on the vehicle. For example in a Jeep you can easily access the heater/ AC unit inside the actual cab. For most other vehicles it will be right up against the firewall in the engine compartment.

You will need to look to the passenger side to find the wire. It will come out of the firewall close to where your AC unit is in the vehicle. There may also be other wires running through the same area, so you may have to take your time to follow every one until you find the proper hose.

It will look like a hose, and rather thicker than other hoses and wires in that same area. Once you think you have found the right one all you do is follow it to the service port. It will be large enough to fit the can of Freon's pour spout. You are looking for on the hose to make certain you have the right spot.
