Modern engines are electronically monitored and controlled by an ECM (Electronic Control Module). Essentially they are like a computer. Your ECM is sensing there is a problem, and you would need to take to a dealer which link the ECM to a diagnostic machine which should be able to retrieve an error code and help identify the cause.
