It would be bad.

The bad part is that oil floats on water so any water you put in sunk right to the bottom of where ever you put it.

But all is not lost, since you know what you did as long as you change the oil VERY SOON all will be well.

When I said change the oil "SOON" I mean that at the very most the car could be driven directly to a mechanic. At the very best the engine would not be run at all and the oil changed before the engine is started at all and the water/oil mixture be turned into mayonnaise!

My husband put about 2 gallons of water in my oil in my car before he realized it was the wrong place now we had it removed but now I just noticed that my car started to overheat. My mechanic  said it  was a cracked head  could that have caused this

You need to change it right away because it could hurt your rod bearings

Yeah, you need that out of there the water is corrosive to the bearings and the journals of the crank cam etc. The bad part is that the oil pressure (if there is enough water in the motor) will decrease and the oil light on the car will come on. But I would be anxious to get the water out even though its no too bad of a situation.
