1996 Chevrolet trucks need to be handled with care. There are number of ways to unlock your door if you either get locked out of your vehicle or you are unable to prize the door open. Firstly, you must attempt to take the slim metal lock picking tool and see if you can catch the lever or rod that attaches to the lock and trip it by using the catch on the end of the slim jim. Then all you need to do is to pull it up accordingly. Hopefully you should hear a small sound and you will then be able to pop the latch/door lock away and then get into your vehicle with ease.
There is even a technique involved when using a slim jim. Generally this depends on if you have power locks or not. If you do, it is a bit harder than if you don't but the simple steps are quite straightforward to understand. You put the slim jim between the window and the rubber seal and slip it under the door locking bar either up and forward, or back if it is a manual lock. If this does not work and you have no joy in unlocking your vehicle then if you have to move the slim jim about two to five in from the lock and repeat the process accordingly.
