As a general rule. Oil Filters screw on to the right (clockwise). To remove a oil filter, use a oil filter wrench and turn (counterclockwise) left. The purpose of the filter wrench is to break loose the rubber seal that has a thin coat of motor oil upon installation.
To remove: Turn filter left with filter wrench.
To install apply thin coat of oil on rubber seal and turn right.
Engine oil should be changed every 3000 miles. In example if you go 5000 miles between changing oil you are damageing the internal parts as the oil viscosity breaks down at 3000 miles.
