Mine does, it was a brand new Peugeot 207 1.4 HDi and my first deisel car after a lifetime of petrol cars. It uses a lot of oil but in the service booklet it says it should not use more than half a litre of oil for every 1000 miles which seems to me to be a lot of oil compared to petrol cars. I have now done 18000 miles in 11 months and added 2 and a half litres in that time
Diesel engines, because of their higher compression ratio, are more thermodynamically efficient then petrol (Otto cycle) engines.
So No, diesel engines do not use more oil then petrol.
