Ok, be careful here!
Your fuel pump is both cooled and lubricated by gas. If you run it without gas it will burn out.
So do this:
Fill the tank with at least 3 gallons of gas. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Now try and start it like normal but do not run the starter for more then 5 seconds at a time. This might take 4 or 5 tries.
If it does start your check engine light may be on as your computer system might have detected a misfire when it ran out of gas. Do not worry about this, it will go away in a week or so.
If it does not start then you burned out the fuel pump. :(
