Unfortunately there is rarely an easy solution when it comes to transmission problems. The best course of action would be to take your vehicle into a garage for a mechanic to take a look at it.

In the meantime, the only cause of action you could take would be to check your transmission fluid levels or check the gear shift linkage.

Chevrolet Cavalier stuck in neutral?
  • The adjust switch may have malfunctioned or be out of position, which could cause your car to be stuck in neutral.
  • Check your transmission fluid level by locating the transmission dipstick under the hood of your vehicle.
  • Use the transmission dipstick in the same way as if you were checking your oil level dipstick.
  • If your transmission fluid level is very low - or indeed empty - then this could be the reason for the car being stuck in neutral.
  • If this is the case, then replacing the transmission fluid is a simple operation.
  • As I stated earlier, you should probably take your vehicle into a garage anyway. Transmission problems, especially automatic transmission issues, should be diagnosed and repaired by a proper mechanic.

It could be a problem with the shifting cable. Have you checked the transmission fluid? Worst news of all - it might be a bad transmission. There is no real way to diagnosis the problem via computer.
