It's very rare that an EGR, (Exhaust, Gas Recirculation), valve goes bad, although it does sometimes happen.
Most likely cause of the trouble code for the EGR is a vacuum leak or possibly a gas cap that has not been tightened properly or the gas cap itself is bad.
  Once the problem is resolved it could take one to two days for the trouble light to go off.
