You will first need to spray or apply an incisive lubricant (Blaster) around the EGR valve and also over the fitting on the driver's side exhaust. Then you need to disconnect the vacuum line that comes from the EGR valve's top and then take away the water line from the exhaust which is located on the driver's side. Before opening the line, make sure you have a bucket because the water which is inside the line will start pouring out.

Then the rubber horses, which are 3 in numbers, should be taken off from the metal tube which will be with out water. Take off the bolts from the EGR valve and the fitting on the driver's side exhaust. Disconnect the exhaust tube after following it from the valve to the base of the driver side plenum. Take off the bolts from the head to let the feed line loose up and then pull it upwards from the valve and twist it.

After this remove the exhaust tube off the valve and apply anti-seize mix on the fitting's both ends. Get a new tube for the EGR valve and clean off any material on seats. The new EGR valve should then be rotated in to the position and then put all bolts back in place. Then reconnect the exhaust on the passenger side and bolt it back. Once again connect the vacuum line towards the EGR valve; fit on the driver side water feed tube and you are done!

Go to your nearest auto parts store and buy the Haynes Service manual for your truck. It will give you complete instructions oh how to test and replace that pesky EGR valve and most everything else on your truck.

On most cars and trucks you unscrew the egr tube and unbolt the egr valve, clean the surface and redo everything. Are you sure this is the problem.

My VW 1.9 litre Beetle's check engine light goes on and off. It might be off for several days or a few hours and then it comes on again for days, maybe, or just a short time.
