In England we have the M1, M6 and M25. All spend time as car parks at rush times and building sites a lot of the rest of the time.
Oh, and occasionally they're roads too!

oh god yes and whats worse is when they close down main roads and chop up streets for no reason at all
They seem to get the work done quickly around here. Not always but most of the time. Hasn't been a real issue here.

Started Jan 2014 will end sometime in 2018 or ........ 290 NW Freeway 38 miles. It's a messy. A total mess. They have tore up all 50 miles and work on 5 miles at a time. Leave it unfinished and move on to next 5 miles. Leave it unfinished and move on. 6 months later they come back 9 stand around 1 works. Over and over :(

Yes! Seems there is never enough time to do it right one time, but always enough time to do the same stretch of road over and over again. It's like some kind of bizarre job security program.
Was visiting in Massachusetts, and there as roadwork going on just about everywhere, ioncluding downtown Boston. The lady at the hotel told me that they have two seasons there, winter,ansd Road Construction.
