If you have a 2000 Mercury Marquis, then you have an intermittent wiper control switch, which parks the wipers at the bottom of your windshield.
If it is not working properly, it could park your wipers in the middle of your windshield.
Take it to a Ford dealer or a repair shop and have them to check it out..

Has nothing to do with whether or not she has intermittent wipers! Most all wipers, since the 50s, park at the bottom. When removing complete wiper blades, most mechanics park the blades in the ceter position by turning off the ignition switch. This makes them easier to remove. If the blades are consistently stopping in the same position they can be repaired by repositioning on the splined studs.

jb185, The question did not mention if the wiper blades or the wiper arms were removed.
You are assuming that the complete assembly was taken off the car and misaligned with the splines that the wiper arms are bolted to.
We are not working on a 1950s' car. Any car made in at least the last thirty years, you can pull on the wiper arm and stand it straight out from the windshield.
There is no need to park the blades in the center of the winshield.
Even if you did, the circuitry that controls the wiper speed and where they will park, is controlled electronically through the intermittent wiper switch.

Most likely, someone has installed the blades incorrectly. If your mechanically inclined, you can fix them by removing the entire wiper blades and repositioning them on the splinted stud.
