Mine are held in with hex socket cap screws. So you just unfasten them and replace them(the dirt shields) with the new ones. My wheel well mud flaps inside the fender wells I just removed all the fasteners and replaced them with nylon bolts and wing nuts .so in the future I can just take them out by hand with no tools.
