Toyota ! You can't go wrong ! The Land Cruiser is a great all around vehicle.

The best off roader available anywhere in the world is the Landrover Defender, period.
Unfortunately it's nasty to drive on ordinary roads. The American Jeep thingys are much nicer to drive, just nothing like as good when the going gets rough.
