It depends on which sink. In the kitchen, it is usually some type of food from previous meals or small peices of trash. In the bathroom, the usual culprit is hair from shaving and again, possible small peices of trash. Good luck to you.

There's a great little tool called a " Zip-it" that cleans out drains better than anything I've ever used. Best thing is, it's only $2.99.

Hey, thanks for this information. I've been having problems with my bathroom sink. No other plumbing liquid seems to work. I'll have to look for Zip-It.

It's just a long plastic tool with barbs on it and you run it down the sink a few times and boy does it pull out the junk and especially hair. Don't know where you live but Home Depot and Lowe's both have them. A cheap little tool that works sooo good!

For me, the culprit is usually hair and soap. I usually just unscrew the stopper to the drain, clean out what I can then put some baking soda down the drain, then pour vinegar on top of it. All natural drain cleaner with no chemical smell!

In the Kitchen it's food and oil, in the bathroom it's soap and hair. They get stuck in the "trap" and make a clog.
