Is adding bleach to a dishwasher an acceptable practice or does it damage the machine?

Well, it's OK to use it sometimes when nothing is in it to clean sludge out of the lines and then flush with water a couple of times but I sure wouldn't use it with any dishes. It won't damage the machine if you just use it on rinse and flush it good with a couple loads of water. Maybe once a month.

I know my late maternal grandma, was all Scots and she would wash dishes, and there were times she would disinfect dishes with washing them all with Bleach and dish detergent. We ate and drank off of them and are still living but that was her home remedy..
