One wire at a time!
First, remove the old cap from the distributor, do NOT disconnect any wires from it yet.
Take your new cap and position it exactly like the old cap, make sure the notches or screw holes are lined up the same way.
Now, one wire at a time, remove a spark plug wire from the old cap and plug it into the new one in the exactly same position. Repeat this, one at a time, till all the wires are transferred.
The idea is that if you only do one wire at a time you will not have the embarrassment of asking what the firing order to a 1993 Chevy is...
