Annie Oakley was involved in a train crash in 1901 which left her paralyzed. However she recovered fully from the temporary paralysis and spinal operations. The accident did not deter her from setting new records. She was falsely charged for stealing to support a cocaine habit. After recovering from paralysis, she quit Buffalo Bill's show and started her stage career with The Western Girl. She again suffered a debilitating automobile accident. She was forced to wear a brace on her right leg. She later engaged herself in working towards women's rights and other humanitarian causes. The musical play Annie Get Your Gun is loosely based on Annie's life. The musical play has also been made into a number of films. Annie died on 3 November 1926, at the age of 66, of pernicious anemia.
