The Grand Cherokee is capable of keyless entry, but sometimes you need to be able to program it so that you do not lose the ability to unlock your Jeep from a distance, or even from inside the house so that you don’t have to waste time unlocking it when you are actually stood near the vehicle.

The first thing that you need to do to program your Grand Cherokee remote is to use the ignition key to get into the vehicle, making sure that you have the remote with you.

When you are in the Jeep, depress and release the ‘lock’ button on the remote five times quite quickly, just leaving around two seconds in between each entry.

When you have done this, insert your key into the ignition and turn it on. Wait until your Jeep chimes are silent, then press and hold the ‘Unlock’ button on the remote. Hold this button down for four seconds and then press the ‘Panic’ button simultaneously.

Hold both these buttons down for one second and then release them both. When the Jeep starts to chime again, press and release the ‘Unlock’ and ‘Lock’ buttons at the same time. When the chiming starts again, turn your ignition key off. You will find that your Grand Cherokee Jeep remote is now programmed.

This process is a fast and effective way of reprogramming a remote keyless entry, and means that all is not lost when either the battery runs down and ahs to be replaced, or when you lose your remote and have to buy another one that is not intended for your own Jeep.

To program the remote of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the simplest way would be to consult the owner's manual. If you don't possess a manual, you can always get one from the local dealer or even from a scrap yard.

Alternatively, you can follow the given tips: Unlock and open the driver's door and turn the car key to the 'on' position. Then, lock all the doors using the button on the main door. After the doors are locked, aim the transmitter to the small bulb situated on the ceiling of the car. Press the 'lock' switch and keep it pressed till the doors get unlocked. Your remote should be programmed by now.

Alternatively, one can also make use of an already present remote, like a TV remote to program the learning remote.

First, try to re-programme the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters before searching for anything else. Assure that the batteries in the transmitters are in working condition and replace them if you are not sure. To programme the transmitters, perform the following:

Open the driver's door and let it be open throughout the programming process. Then, shift the mechanical door lock lever to the LOCK mode, turn the ignition key to the rUN mode. Within a period of twenty seconds, point a transmitter at the receiver dome and push the lock button for a period of five seconds at least. After the receiver has accepted the programming code the driver's door will unlock on its own. The first transmitter has been programmed, in the same extra transmitters up to four may be programmed in the same way, within twenty seconds.

If the alarm does not work properly, you may have a faulty alarm module.
