Firstly, remove your oil filler cap and also the cap of the water header tank to determine if there is a residue resembling a creamy layer in there. This will let you know the oil and water have mixed up together. If they have, it means that you have a blown head gasket.

The head gasket is the expendable part that is situated between the engine block and the head. On looking closely at the engine you will see that it is split into two pieces, this is the part at which the gasket is squeezed in between.

In order to fix the head gasket or replace it yourself, it would be useful if you obtained a manual like a Haynes workshop manual which will make your job much easier.

Do not rush a head gasket replacement; it will only cost you more later on.
