A belt tensioner is a movable support structure that supports a part of the belt in an automobile engine or some other mechanical system. While checking the belt tensioner, try to shake it side to side. If there is unnecessary movement, the part needs to be replaced. Also check if the belt aligned with other pulleys. The belt should run in the centre.

With a 15mm wrench on tensioner, push or pull it, letting it go in the process. Find out if it returns to its place by itself. If this is not the case, then it is better to have it replaced. To replace the tensioner, first take the belt off, and remove the bolt in the middle of the assembly. With a belt tensioner tool, a socket and a ratchet, it is quite easy to fit the belt and remove unnecessary tension.
