The EGR valve is on the front right of the motor right below the alternator. It controls the noxious emissions coming from the motor. It about the size of a large pill bottle. I have an 03 2500 5.7 and at about 72k it started going bad. From what I've read a lot of the Dodge trucks with the 5.7 motor the electrical system controlling the valve is what actually goes bad.
