The ignition module is part of the SBEC (Single board Engine Controller) which is located under the driver-side fender, directly behind the battery. There is a component of the ignition control system also located at the base of the distributor. It is a signaling device called a pickup or sensor that tells the IBEC that the distributor is rotating. Its output pulses are also used to determining proper advance/retard timing. If no signal is detected from the pickup, the SBEC will keep the engine in shut down mode via the ASD (Auto-Shut-Down) relay which when relaxed (normally open) will not provide power to the ignition coil and fuel pump.
