EGR stands for; Exhaust Gas Recirculation. If you are getting a code reading for the EGR valve, it is probably not the valve itself that is bad.
Likely cause is an uneven fuel air mixture.
Check you gas cap to be sure it is in good condition and is tightened properly. Always tighten the cap until it clicks a few times.
If this is the problem it may take 24 to 48 hours for the check light top go off.
