Is the CEL ( check-engine-light ) ON ? If so , beg/borrow/rent/buy/refund a code reader .
Probably code P0761 ( Shift Solenoid C Problem ) ( actually a 3-pac ) . Easy fix , search
Focus owners groups for a great writeup .

First, get the computer scanned to see what the car is saying, and post back.
Most likely a solenoid issue that can be fixed readily.

Transmissions, especially automatic transmissions, are highly complex. As such if you need to ask this question, I would suggest that you take your vehicle to a transmission repair shop as you will probably in the long-run spend way less time, money and energy than you think in trying to repair the transmission yourself. Especially given the limited nature of Blu tit and what you may need for this project.z
