10w40 Wet Clutch Safe oil. I have been running Mobile 1 motorcycle oil in both my 92 and 96 Fourtrax. The oil filter is located behind a plate above the oil dipstick held on with (3) 8mm bolts. Fram CH8015. Remember to replace the o-ring when changing the filter. The Fram filter comes with one.
I also run Mobile 1 75w90 Gear Lube in the front and rear differentials. This is a major area that is often neglected. Make sure to change the fluid frequently if you ride in a lot of mud and water. Contaminates will work their way in.
The front and rear brakes have plugs that you can open up to drain water from the drums. DO NOT let the bike sit without draining water from the drums! It WILL ruin the brakes. I have rode in a lot of mud and water, and I am done with it. I am sick of the added maintenance that is required for that style of riding. Since I quit riding in such harsh conditions, my machines have lasted so much longer without constant maintenance.

Honda make a "special" oil for it. I ran 5w 30 Castrol in mine. The reason they want you to use their special oil is because it better on your clutch than regular oil.
Never had a problem with mine and the clutch was fine when I sold it after 3 years of 5w 30.
If you have the money, get the honda lube. I just picked up some for my kawasaki for about $13/qt.
